Chesterfield Football Club are saddened to hear of the loss of Spireites great Albert Phelan, who passed away last week.Brought to the attention of the club by his son Nick, Phelan is tenth on the all-time Spireites appearance list, playing in 390 matches for the club and scoring 14 goals in the process.
Making his debut in September 1964 the centre half soon stepped into the shoes of the retiring Dave Blakey and was a mainstay of the side for a decade, known for playing with class and consistency.
Phelan later joined Halifax Town and went on to become a favourite at the Shay with his new home supporters.
The funeral will take place at 2pm on Friday, May 6 at Grenoside Crematorium, Sheffield, in the North Chapel.
