The young Spireites drew 3-3 in a ding-dong battle against Doncaster Rovers at Staveley on Saturday.
Goals from Tom Jarrald and Derek Daly gave the youth team a flying start before three Doncaster goals turned the game around. A late penalty from Daly finally spread the points with the last kick of the game.
Chesterfield, who went into the game following a fine 5-1 victory over Lincoln city in their last game, got off to a fine start when they opened the scoring in the third minute. A well worked corner routine led to Jarrald meeting a Tom Marshall corner at the back post to fire in past the visiting 'keeper.
The hosts doubled their lead from the penalty spot in the 13th minute after a good spell of dominance which led to a spot kick being awarded and Daly stepped up to score with ease.
Chesterfield continued to control the first period, and Doncaster failed to put the home side’s defence under any serious pressure and there was even a chance for forward Ricky German to extend the lead further but he hit his shot straight at the 'keeper.
The visitors came out a different team in the second half and immediately became the more likely team to score and in the 55th minute they made the pressure count when a through ball led to a defensive mix up between Jake Hudson and Dylan Parkin led to Doncaster getting their first goal of the morning.
Doncaster levelled the game in the 67th minute from another defensive error and then took the lead in the 86th minute, Parkin did all he could to keep the ball out but eventually it found its way in and the comeback was completed.
Chesterfield threw everything at the visitors in the dying embers of the game to earn a point and got their reward in the final seconds. A goal-mouth scramble in the Doncaster penalty area led to a handball and another penalty being awarded. Daly stepped up again to earn his side a well-deserved point.
