Chesterfield winger Gboly Ariyibi is due to arrive back in England later this week and will hope to return with his USA Olympic side still in with a chance of making it to Rio next summer.Ariyibi has been on duty with his USA international side since late September in the CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship, a competition between under 23 teams from North, Central American and Caribbean national teams aiming to qualify for next summer's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
This year the tournament has been held in the USA with the final two matches being played tonight.
USA-born Ariyibi's side stormed through the group stages with comfortable wins over Canada, Cuba and Panama to progress to the semi-finals and a match with Honduras in Sandy, Utah.
Despite coming off the bench at half time, Ariyibi was unable to stop his side from falling to a 2-0 defeat and into the third place play-off for the tournament.
Honduras's win meant that they and fellow finalists Mexico qualify automatically for the Olympic football tournament, with the USA side pitched up against Canada in tonight's third place play-off - the winner of which will play South American runners-up Colombia next March to determine which team will suit-up in Brazil.
Win or lose Ariyibi is due back in the UK later this week and is eligible for the Spireites' match at Walsall on Saturday.
