Youth Team Start FA Youth Cup Run at Stourbridge

3 November 2015

The Chesterfield youth team get their FA Youth Cup campaign underway with an away match at Stourbridge on Wednesday evening.

The game kicks-off at 7:30pm at Stourbridge's War Memorial Athletic Ground (DY8 4H).

Last season the Spireites beat category 1 side Aston Villa in a 3-2 Proact Stadium thriller before narrowly losing 1-0 to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Ahead of the game, academy manager Mark Smith spoke about the game and his side's hopes of going on a similar run to the stunning one they went on last campaign.

Smith said: "Of course the aim is to emulate what happened last year. Some of the second years were involved in the games with Villa and Leicester last year, so they know what can happen in this competition.

"We don't know a lot about the opposition but either way we need to focus on ourselves and play the way we have at times in recent weeks. If we do that we'll have a good chance.

"With young players you can never guarantee the perforormances, but regardless of the opposition we've drilled into the lads the importance of their approach and we certainly hope to see them perform to their capabilities."
