On-loan defender Richard Wood gave his reaction after his side fell to a 3-2 defeat at a snow-covered Vale Park on Saturday.
While the away side had long spells of possession, they too rarely showed signs of making breakthroughs, while Port Vale were able to break incisively to score their three goals.
Wood detailed his disappointment to PlayerHD after the match: "You can't expect to win games by scoring four goals away from home, we've conceded three poor goals from our point of view and that needs eradicating quickly.
"If we're going to do anything in this league we need to stop soft goals like that when we're playing well in games. We dominated most of the game today."
After a strong Sprieites start, four minutes of madness saw Vale take the lead, the visitors peg them level almost instantly, before Vale once more took the lead with still only ten minutes on the clock.
"It was strange," Wood said. "We started off the game really well and put them on the backfoot straight away, which we wanted to do.
"With them having played on Thursday night we knew we had to start bright with a good tempo, but then the first time they came into our half they scored and it's just disappointing when that happens.
"We need to iron things out quickly, it needs to stop."
With heavy snow falling over Staffordshire on Friday evening and the temperature dipping to zero during the match it was truly a winter's afternoon, but Wood wasn't willing to blame the defeat on the conditions.
"The conditions weren't ideal," he remarked. "But it was the same for both teams. I'm not going to make excuses, I felt we acquitted ourselves quite well on it from the start. We tried to pass and move on it and we did okay.
"You've got to pick yourself up quickly and the next game is coming quickly, so we need to put this to bed fast."
