Happy Fourth Belgian Spireites Birthday!

26 November 2015

Today the Belgian Spireites celebrate their fourth birthday and to help celebrate the Belgian Spireites themselves select and describe their favourite games.

We started from the bottom, and now we're here!

Back in 2011, when we decided to support an English football team all together, we wanted a side that was struggling. Our idea was to help them avoiding relegation and see them grow. That's why we chose CFC who were then bottom in the third tier.

Now when we look back at what the club has achieved we reckon that we made no mistake choosing to follow the mighty Spireites. Let's have a look at six key games for the Belgian Spireites that illustrate Chesterfield's amazing improvement.

February 28, 2012: Chesterfield 0 - 4 Charlton Athletic

Our first game at the Proact... As expected, against the leaders. A struggling Chesterfield side were completely overwhelmed. We enjoyed some class Tommy Lee saves but our side was obviously too weak for that level that season.

Luckily we met our first Spireites friends and that was worth the return trip - and we came to Chesterfield and back to Belgium without spending a night in England!

March 25, 2012: Chesterfield 2 - 0 Swindon Town

The first win we saw was a great one. In the beautiful Wembley Stadium, Craig Westcarr sent us to seventh heaven with his late goal.

We didn't dominate the game but we showed character. The cup win was the highlight of this disappointing season and we also saw our first and only Belgian in a Town shirt: Franck Moussa!

December 21, 2012: Southend 3 - 0 Chesterfield

That was definitely the worst Spireites game we attended ever. We were full of hope after the relegation but this season was tasteless.

Paul Cook had taken over but the first steps weren't that good. It was freezing and the nightlife in Southend didn't leave us with a positive impression.

August 31, 2013: Portsmouth 0 - 2 Chesterfield

Except for Wembley, Fratton Park is the most impressive stadium we have visited and, football wise, that was the beginning of a great adventure.

Paul Cook had stamped his mark on the team and we witnessed that on the pitch. Our friend Armand Gnanduillet scored in front of us and delivered an assist to Tendayi Darikwa...we went psycho!

April 27, 2014: Burton Albion 0 - 2 Chesterfield

Our most intense memory! An over-crowded away end filled with ecstatic Spireites fans. We made it to League One!

That crowned an amazing season where we attended seven games and returned to Wembley for another JPT final. Cookie's side were playing very good passing football, a real pleasure for football lovers. For sure, we were part of the Paul Cook Barmy Army!

April 25, 2015: Bristol City 2 - 0 Chesterfield

That wasn't the game we might have expected. Bristol were probably too strong for us and they deserved their title, and luckily everything went our way in Rochdale.

A Belgian Spireite who had stayed in Brussels told us the good news: MK Dons had sent us into the Play-off, what a superb achievement for a promoted team!

It had been 65 years that the Spireites hadn't been so high in the Football League. After less than four years supporting Chesterfield, we have already lived a lot of fantastic moments. And it is not over: let's write more CFC History!

Thanks, The Belgian Spireites
