As the Spireites enter the FA Cup in the first round on Monday night, Monday's opponents have been on an FA cup run which started back in September in the second qualifying round.
Now in the first round proper, the only other time they have featured in this round was in 2011 when they beat Rochdale 3-2 at Spotland before losing to Brighton and Hove Albion in the second round..
First Qualifying Round vs Witton Albion 3-1 (H): Watch here. Goals from Sam Madeley, Craig Lindfield and Rory Fallon secured helped FC United come from behind to secure a 3-1 victory for the Manchester club. Witton, who are two divisions lower than FC United, took a surprise lead early on but the home side fought back to record their first FA Cup win at their new stadium, Broadhurst Park. The home side had the ball in the net a couple more times but they were ruled out by the referee for offside and a foul on the keeper.
Second Qualifying Round vs Buxton FC 1-1 (H): Watch here. An equaliser from Tom Greaves with just over 10 minutes to go saw FC United earn a replay against the Derbyshire side. The deadlock was broken on the stroke of half time after some poor FC United defending from a corner which allowed Warren Burrell to open the scoring, after a first half that the home side had dominated. Greaves scored FC United’s equaliser from a goalmouth scramble after long spells of pressure.
Second Qualifying Round Replay vs Buxton 2-0 (A): Watch here. Two fantastic goals from Greg Daniels and substitute Sam Madeley in the last 15 minutes saw FC United into the final qualifying round after a hard-fought game. Goalkeeper David Carnell made a superb double save in the second half before a fantastic turn and strike by Daniels put FC United in command of the tie. They put the game to bed when Madeley finished off a swift counter attack to set up a tie against Sporting Khalsa.
Final Qualifying Round vs Sporting Khalsa 3-1 (A): Watch here. A solid performance against a lower division side saw FC United qualify for the FA Cup first round proper for the first time in four years. Two first half goals from Luke Ashworth and Greg Daniels put the Northern League North side in control, before the home side found a route back into the game through Tes Robinson to make for a nervy ending before substitute Craig Lindfield secured the victory.
Player of their run: Craig Linfield. Linfield scored two important goals during qualifying and also chipped in with an assist as FC United made the first round proper.
