A strong Spireites reserve team swept aside Rotherham United's youthful side 4-1 in a forceful attacking display at Staveley.

The Spireites roared into a rapid three-goal lead as within the opening nine minutes as the home side took control of the Final Third Development League Cup encounter.

Mani Dieseruvwe netted a penalty after a push on Jake Hudson four minutes in, cooly sending the United 'keeper the wrong way.

It was 2-0 two minutes later when Ollie Banks spotted the Rotherham 'keeper off his line and lofted an effort over him and into the net from a crossing position.

It got even better when Laurence Maguire was then on the scoresheet just nine minutes in, heading home a Dion Donohue centre.

Byron Harrison went close twice with shots before Jake Hudson cracked the crossbar from ten yards 25 minutes in, forcing a fine save from the Rotherham United 'keeper who somehow flicked the right-back's effort onto the woodwork.

Six minutes after the interval, and with the Spirietes pressure continuing, Dieseruvwe doubled his tally for the evening with a headed fourth. The goal came after fine build-up, Harrison holding up possession and finding Banks down the right who delivered a pinpint cross.

Rotherham finally growing into the game, they pulled a goal back when Adam Jonson pounced on a loose ball in the Spireites' box to hit home his side's first of the match, just past the hour mark.

The young visiting legs tiring, Liam O'Neil forced a save from the United 'keeper's legs late on as the Spireites coasted home to a comfortable cup win.
