The final academy scholar for the forthcoming season has joined Chesterfield, and striker Riccardo German promises to be an exciting prospect. The teenage forward is the ninth and final scholar who will be looking to impress in the youth set-up in the coming season, hoping to later join Jake Beesley and Laurence Maguire who this year graduated from the academy and were offered professional contracts with the first team squad.
German spent six years in the Reading youth set-up and academy manager Gerry Carr moved quickly when he discovered that he was available.
Carr said: "Riccardo is strong, quick and powerful: all essential ingredients in the modern game. When he became available we asked him to play for us in an under 17 match with Doncaster Rovers - he scored twice and did enough in 70 minutes on the pitch to convince us that he was worth taking on as a scholar.
"It's not going to be an easy ride for any of the incoming scholars, but if they work hard and put the effort in they will be given all the guidance they need from us to have their best chance of making it in the game."
