Darikwa: "It's been a long season and we've worked hard"

Spireites full back Tendayi Darikwa played the full 90 minutes as his Chesterfield side bowed out of the play-offs at the semi-final stage with defeat at Deepdale on Sunday

Darikwa's place in the first 11 kept up his record of starting every match this season - a grand total of fully 56 matches - in a campaign that saw him sweep the board at last week's Player of the Year Awards evening.

Despite the successful season for Darikwa and his side, the right back was circumspect after the 3-0 reverse at the hands of a strong Preston North End side.

"I think we have got to make it what it is," he said. "We got to the 30-minute mark pretty comfortably and then we had a couple of half chances and then we knew the next goal was going to be massive, but they got it and went on to win it.

"We had a few good chances and we know that their two front men are dangerous. It's disappointing to go out like this but it is what it is."

Darikwa was open at the start of the season in saying that promotion was his ambition for the campaign, and he was just as forthright on Sunday after his ambition came close but not close enough to being achieved.

He said: "It's hard to say it's been a successful season because it hasn't been, but to get the opportunity to go up in the play-offs now it feels like we've thrown it all away.

"It's been a long season and we've worked hard for it. It's obviously sad to lose in the semi-finals of the play-offs.

"I love everything about this club and it has been a pleasure to play with these lads."
