The Spireites ended their 46-game League One season with a strong 1-1 draw against Bramall Lane and will now face Preston North End in the play-offs.
Ian Evatt equalised for Chesterfield just after half time, after Marc McNulty had given the Blades the breakthrough before the interval, and while the Spireites pushed for a winner they were made to settle for a point and an overall sixth spot in the final league table.
Manager Paul Cook spoke to Spireites Player after the game and was proud of his players' efforts in the afternoon and over the season.
"We were outstanding today, we were a credit to the club, as were our supporters and that's how you've got to play football.
"Sometimes you don't always win. I felt Sheffield United scored very much against the run of play, but that's football and what pleased me most was that we have the ability to lose games when there's not much in them.
"If this was the first leg of the play-offs today we'd be going back to our stadium 1-1 with all to play for so I think the players deserve a massive pat on the back this season.
"As we finish the game you can say that about the supporters as well, you can look back on the season and everyone can say it's been a very successful one for the club and that makes me very proud."
