The youth team extended their impressive unbeaten record as they overcame Lincoln City 3-0 at Langer Lane on Tuesday.Strike duo Jake Beesley and Tope Fowodu did the goalscoring damage, Beesley scoring a penalty and Fowodu netting twice to give the young Spireites a commanding half time lead.
The result keeps the youth team at the top of the table, but despite the score coach Mark Smith was far from pleased with the performance of his side.
He said: "The manner in which you achieve your results, especially at the younger levels and with the development of players, has to be good enough and can't be just about the result.
"We won 3-0 but we were poor, just better than Lincoln. You have to look at the bigger picture, and the bigger picture is that these kids are looking for one thing - and that's a pro contract.
"Performances like this one may have won the game but it's not about winning, that doesn't guarantee you a contract, neither does winning the league guarantee that contracts will be given out. It doesn't work like that, you have to earn the right to get a contract.
"I've never been in a dressing room where you've won the game, but it feels like a defeat. The players need to go away and think: 'Yes, we've won the game, but how did I play?' If they're not happy with how they played then I'm asking them to do something about it.
"The lads now know what's expected from them and we're looking forward to Saturday and the opportunity to perform as we know we can."
