Sam Clucas has played left back, left midfield and now as a lone striker this season and his two goals from up top on Tuesday saw the Spireites stroll past Gillingham at the Proact Stadium.
Clucas gave the Spireites the perfect start, opening the scoring with a cultured finish after just three minutes, and spoke to Spireites Player about finding out that he'd be fulfilling a striker's role for the match.
"It's been a bit of a whirlwind today," said Clucas. "The gaffer gave me a call yesterday, got me into his office and said I was playing up front. I'm on the pitch and I'm playing so I can't complain - it's worked out perfectly.
"Fortunately I got a chance in the first few minutes and managed to put it away. It was a great start from the team and I think we needed that.
"Everyone was disappointed around the club after Coventry, it was just silly mistakes from the whole team and we wanted to come here today and show the fans what we can do. I think we did that."
The brace lifted Clucas to ten goals in his maiden season at Chesterfield and the 24-year-old says that he is enjoying his time in North Derbyshire.
"I've hit double figures, which was my aim when I first came," he said. "I'm happy as Larry here, all the lads have welcomed me in, it's a great bunch of lads out there.
"I think every game now we've got to take as a final because we need to win every game we can now until the end of the season.
"We're a good team and the gaffer knows that we should be there cemented in the play-offs. We've had a few sloppy results and hopefully we'll rectify that and go on a good run now."
