With Dean Saunders looking to shore up his squad ahead of the coming Sky Bet League 1 season, the Spireites manager revealed that he has been in conversation with Jimmy Ryan over a new contract.
The midfielder's contract expires at the end of June and while Ryan has been offered a new deal to stay with Chesterfield it has not yet been signed.
Saunders commented: "I'm negotiating with Jimmy to try and get him to sign. He's got options elsewhere, but we are talking."
Ryan joined the Spireites from Scunthorpe United in 2013 and was a crucial part of the team that won League Two in 2014 and reached the League One play-offs last season.
