The Mind Body Spirit Martial Arts academy is the foremost place to train and practice for martial arts in the Chesterfield area, and is located in The HUB at the Proact Stadium.

The academy gives martial arts enthusiasts aged from young to old and skilled from novice to expert the chance to work on their abilities and develop their skills.

Shihan Mike Holden spoke about the academy and why he chose to base Mind Body Spirit within the Chesterfield FC Community Trust building at the Proact Stadium.

He said: "We're in a great central location with top-class facilities and we've got a beautiful air conditioned room.

"We came here because I have a link with the football club, having been a supporter for over 40 years. It just seemed like the right thing for us to do at the time - we've now been here for 18 months and it's been the correct decision."

Holden gave further information about the Mind Body Spirit Martial Arts academy and the way they cater to the differing abilities and ages of their students.

He said: "We're a national governing body registered academy and we're also what's called a centre of excellence - that means that we can teach kids from four years old. We also offer some great kids and adults programmes.

"We teach all our classes in a fun way, the focus being on character development. With the young group we try to be as relaxed as possible, using the term 'learning through play', so we keep it as relaxed as we can but with a structure so that the kids can understand the fundamentals and the discipline in martial arts.

"Once they've graduated from the Warriors programme for 4-6 year-olds, they move to our junior programme which is geared towards young people aged 6-14 years-old. In that class they do a full national governing body jujitsu syllabus and from there they can move on to the adult programme.

"Then hopefully they can move onto the rank of a senior black belt."
