The youth team started their pre-season programme at Nottinghamshire side Clipstone last night with a 2-2 draw.
Dion Donahue opened the scoring for the Spireites in the first half with a freekick and after being pegged back substitute George Milner put the young Spireites back in front with less than ten minutes left to play.
However, Clipstone struck late and in the 89th minute ensured the match finished all-square.
After the match, academy manager Mark Smith was happy with his side's start to pre-season: "It was a decent run out with a good 2-2 draw, but the result wasn't important - the main thing was that we got the fitness levels up during the game.
"We looked strong and nice and fit for where we are in pre-season. With it being the first game there was a little bit of rustiness as well but generally I thought we did okay."
The match was against an open age men's side, and Smith feels that playing against the more physical senior teams will benefit the youth team's progression.
"All our games this pre-season are against men's teams and I want to try and stretch ourselves a bit," he said. "It's a decent start but now the aim is to get the rustiness out of the legs and to get the match sharpness back through these games and through our training programmes."
