As revealed by Dean Saunders exclusively on Spireites Player, the squad will be travelling to Portugal for a week-long training camp. The players and management will head overseas on Sunday, July 12 and return the following weekend.
Explaining the thinking behind the training camp, Saunders said: "There’s more to it than just going away to a different country. They’re all in the same building and they’re away from their families for a little bit and away from any other distractions, so all they can think about is going to sleep, getting up in the morning and training.
"It gives me a chance to get to know them better and them to get to know me and all the staff. When we go away on these trips, we’re sat together, we train together and we live together for four or five days and it bonds you. No matter what job you’re in, it would bond you as a group."
The trip to Portugal has meant that the pre-season friendly at Matlock Town has been brought forward to Thursday, July 9 (7.45pm).
