With the Spireites first team squad heading to Portugal on Sunday for a training camp in the Algarve, manager Dean Saunders reported back from their base for the week.

He said: "I think they've found the accommodation great, the pitches are great and the weather's obviously nice so we can stay out here as long as we like - they're going to enjoy training here. They're getting to know us and we're getting to know them a bit better as well."

Saunders and his coaching staff have planned a taxing schedule for the players to get the most out of the time away, culminating in a friendly match against Portuguese second tier side SC Olhanense on Friday.

"We've got some tough days of hard work in front of us, then we'll ease off before the game," said Saunders. "Again, that gives me another chance to have a look at what we've got in the squad.

"We've got 22 players here, including a couple of young players that we've brought along with us. They'll all get a game and then we've got the game with Hull City shortly after we get back.

"We've got to build up to the Barnsley game, that's the main thing, and that everyone stays fit so I'll get to see everybody."

The video interview, filmed by our own director of player recruitment/development Paul Mitchell, is now available to watch on Spireites PlayerHD.
