Chesterfield have confirmed their place in the Final Third Development League East Division this season as the reserve team returns after a two-year absence.

The Spireites will compete against the likes of Rotherham United, Doncaster Rovers and Notts County, with home fixtures mainly scheduled to take place at the Proact Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Spireites chief executive Chris Turner explained the reason behind the decision to resurrect the reserve side. He said: "We felt that the players who are not featuring regularly in the first team would benefit from playing matches in this league.

"There are a number of youngsters who need to be playing games and the only alternative previously was to send them out on loan. Players who are coming back from injury will also benefit from reserve games regularly taking place."

The Spireites have also entered the Final Third Development League Cup, which will comprise of a first round group stage of around three/four matches with the group winners meeting in the semi-finals. There will be free admission to the reserve games played at the Proact Stadium.

It was revealed earlier this month that Chesterfield's shadow squad will compete in the H-K-L North Midlands Development Football League U21s Division this season. The shadow squad - formerly known as the development centre - will play their home fixtures at Staveley Miners Welfare's Inkersall Road ground.
