Chesterfield start their Proact Stadium pre-season campaign on Tuesday night as they welcome Hull City to North Derbyshire.

The Spireites squad returned on Saturday from their Portugal training camp, a trip that culminated in a 2-0 Friday morning win over Portuguese second tier side SC Olhanense.

Dean Saunders used 22 players in the match, with the squad coming through the game without injuries but with ever-building fitness levels.

Goalkeeping coach Mark Crossley spoke to PlayerHD and explained that he is looking to continue on the road to readiness ahead ahead of the new season.

"We're looking for the same things, progression really," he said. "I think with each game so far we've progressed a little bit more, the fitness has got better and I think on Tuesday night we should see that go even further - they're about 80% at the moment."

City started off their pre-season programme last Friday night with a 2-1 win over North Ferriby United, when headers from Greg Luer and Alex Bruce ensured the tigers got off to a winning pre-season start, and Crossley is looking to do as well as possible against the Championship side.

He said: "I'm a believer that winning games breeds confidence, so while we all say that pre-season game results don't matter it's better to win a game of football than to lose it - so whenever we have a game we want to try and win it.

"There's nothing at stake if we don't win, but we've got an opposition that will be more testing. We're playing a team that's just come down from the Premier League so they'll be expected to be comfortable winners - but I can assure you that that won't be the case.

"We've got some good players here and it will be taken very seriously. It's the next step forwards and by the time we get to Hartlepool and the last pre-season game we'll know about the players and their fitness and we'll be ready for the first game of the season."

Tickets remain available for the match, which kicks-off at 7.30pm, and will be available to buy at the Proact Stadium before kick-off .
