Trailling by two goals, the Spireites came back to claim a marvellous 3-2 pre-season win against Burnley, Armand Gnanduillet the star of the show.
Lukas Jutkiewicz gave the visitors the lead when he was able to slide home and score from close range after a charging George Boyd run and low Matt Lowton centre. After 21 minutes the lead was doubled when George Boyd beat the offside trap, rounded Tommy Lee and finished comfortably.
The Spireites struck back almost instantly as Jake Orrell finished a slick move to turn home Tendayi Darikwa's good low centre.
Midway through the second half and the Spireites were level through a quite stunning goal. Darikwa's ball in was high and hanging and Gnanduillet connected with an audacious bicycle kick that darted onto the post and nestled into the corner, an amazing goal.
In the dying minutes and the Spireites still pushing they claimed a pre-season winner when Gnanduillet tied his man in knots, side-footed into Byron Harrison who got the slightest touch to convert and win the game.
After a cagey start from both teams, the visitors came inches away from opening the scoring when Boyd got onto the end of a long pass from Micheal Duff but his volleyed attempt was fantastically tipped onto the bar by Lee, in his first game since signing a new contract with the Spireites.
Two minutes after hitting the bar Burnley took the lead, Jutkiewicz got in front of his man from a Matthew Lowton delivery to beat Lee at his near post. The Clarets almost went further ahead minutes later but the ever-impressive Darikwa got back to clear Boyd’s low shot off the line.
It soon was 2-0 in the 22nd minute when Boyd finally managed to grab his goal after he calmly rounded Lee and slotted into the empty Spireites net after being played through by Frederic Ulvestad.
The Spireites responded well and got back into the game after some lovely football down the right hand side which ended up in Darikwa cutting the ball back and on his first start for the first team, 18-year-old Jake Orrell slotted home confidently.
Chesterfield defender Sam Hird then went off injured seven minutes before the interval after feeling the effects of a challenge with goal-scorer Jutkiewicz. Burnley almost got their third goal on the stroke of half time but Lee made a fantastic double save to deny first Jutkiewicz and then Lowton.
The second half started in the same vein as the first with not many clear cut chances, with Sylvan Ebanks-Blake attempting a back heel from a low ball in to the Burnley box and Jutkiewicz’s first touch letting him down after being played through on goal.
The Spireites continued to hold their own during the second period and had a chance to equalise following a corner taken short to Jay O’Shea, who laid off a pass for full-back Daniel Jones on the edge of the box, but his shot flew over the bar.
With just over 20 minutes left, Chesterfield got their reward after substitute Gnanduillet met Darikwa’s floated ball and produced a fantastic bicycle kick which went in off the post and left goalkeeper Tom Heaton with no chance in the visitor's net.
Burnley almost regained the lead when a mix-up in the Spireites box allowed Lowton space and his cut-back was deflected towards goal but Lee managed to claw the ball away from goal.
Chesterfield continued to dominate against higher division opposition and had two quick-fire chances to take the lead, the first came from Darikwa who cut inside his man and shot towards goal, but his attempt was saved by Heaton. The second was from sub Mani Dieseruvwe, the former Sheffield Wednesday man’s shot being deflected inches wide of the Burnley goal.
The Spireites grabbed their third and the winning goal in the 89th minute through Byron Harrison after good work by Gnanduillet - who beat his man with ease before finding Harrison, getting a slight touch to guide the ball home.
