Eighth Minute Applause for Ernie

9 January 2015

As part of Ernie Moss Day tomorrow, supporters are urged to join in a round of applause for Ernie in the eighth minute of the game against Port Vale.

The above image of Ernie - designed for the pump-clip badge for Brampton Brewery's 'Ernie 8' ale - will also be shown on the new large video screen in the eighth minute. The eighth minute has been chosen as that is of course the shirt number Ernie is most associated with.

Before the match, just after 2.45pm, the video screen will also be used to show footage of the legendary striker in action.

Ernie will be presented to the crowd at half-time, when he will be joined at pitch-side by a number of his former team-mates, providing fans with another opportunity to show their appreciation.

Ernie, 65, is suffering from a form of dementia, known as Pick's Disease. A bucket collection is taking place to raise funds for Dementia UK, at the request of Ernie's family, who will be attending the match.

Further funds for the charity will be raised through the sale of limited edition badges. As Ernie made a total of 749 appearances in his career, 750 badges have been produced, with the first one being presented to the club's all-time leading goalscorer. Brampton Brewery have also agreed to donate 20p for every pint of Ernie 8 ale sold on the day.

Don't forget to pick up a special edition of the Inspire matchday magazine, featuring a souvenir pull-out poster showing Ernie in goalscoring action.
