The Chesterfield youth team come up against Rotherham United at home on Saturday.
The youth team represented the club in the DCFA Senior Challenge Cup on Tuesday night, losing 3-1 at Glossop North End.
However, coach Mark Smith felt that despite the result the evening will have done his team of young players plenty of good.
"If anything," he said. "I think it's helped team morale and the lads are now more likely to look after each other on the pitch.
"The main thing is that there were five or six of them that you looked at and you could see that they would thrive in that kind of environment.
"That's not the level we're looking play at but the physicality is also important - especially when it's kids playing against men."
After recent cancellations Smith is happy that his side are back to their top sharpness as they approach the crucial months of the season at the top of the table.
"It doesn't take our lads long to get up and running," said Smith. "They've got a good fitness base anyway and then that tough game on Tuesday night will do them good in the long run.
"It's a game we're looking forward to as we now push on to the rest of the season."
The match kicks-off at 10:30am at Langer Lane, with all supporters welcome to watch.
