The Chesterfield youth team finally got back to action but despite taking the lead at home they could only draw with Scunthorpe United.
Centre back Brad Holmes gave the Spireites the lead with a close range volley in the first half, but after the Iron equalised the hosts were unable to push on for a winner, despite their best efforts
Youth team coach Mark Smith was generally pleased with his side's return to action, having had their last two matches postponed due the the weather.
"It was pleasing to get back out on the pitch," said Smith "It was touch and go at one stage and the referee had a look at it. It was hard, but it wasn't dangerous and we knew that once the players started running about their boots would soften it up a bit.
"It was good to get back into it, we were a little bit off it in the first half due to some training sessions we did during the week, with having the games off perhaps we did too much at times.
"Then we found our feet in the second half and we were excellent - apart from the fact that we weren't great in the final third, which was a bit of a let down for us. That's where we failed to turn the chances we created into goals."
However, with the game getting older the team picked up the pace and attacking intent, doing everything but score a winning goal.
"We finished really strongly," said Smith. " We were trying to get the winner, so it was nothing to do with match fitness.
"A few of the lads were struggling first half, but as soon as they got their second wind and got the stiffness out of their legs they powered on and the only thing missing was the finishing from the numerous chances we created."
