A Lewis Sugden hat-trick saw the Spireites youth team come from behind to beat rivals Mansfield Town 5-1 in a thumping local derby. After the Stags had taken the lead in the match played at Clipstone FC, striker Jake Beesley equalised to take the tie in level at the half time break.
The second half however, was all one way traffic as Sugden claimed the match ball and another goal was added by midfielder Mason Coy to send Chesterfield back to Derbyshire with a resounding triumph.
Youth team coach Mark Smith was understandably elated with the result and his side's second half performance.
"It was a real game of two halves," said Smith. "I thought we handled the conditions better than they did. In the first half we had the wind against us, playing slightly uphill and on a bobbly pitch - and we couldn't cope with that.
"But then in the second half we had the wind at our back and we played some good football and scored some really good goals.
"The scoreline doesn't overly flatter us and we had a few more chances so it could have been more."
The youth team are not in action this weekend, but will return to league duties next Wednesday with a noon kick-off against Grimsby Town at home.
