Chesterfield exited this season's DCFA Senior Chellenge Cup after a 5-3 loss at Glossop North End in the third round on Tuesday night.
Mani Dieseruvwe tucked away an early penalty for the Spireites, with two goals from North End reversing things before Byron Harrison made the scores level again at the break.
Defender Dave Young gave the hosts the lead again with a spectacular goal from his own half, and though Dieseruvwe scored a second to make it square once more two further Glossop strikes saw the game finish with an eventual 5-3 result.
Mark Crossley lead the Spireites team on the night and gave his reflections on the Cup loss.
"It was played in difficult conditions but we can have no excuses," he said. "On the night Glossop deserved it.
"We started really well and played some good stuff but then they started to get on top and we struggled without our regular defenders.
"We shouldn't be losing to a non-league side but we did. They coped with the conditions better than we did.
"Now we need to move on and get some of these players to be involved in the first team - with the most important match being Saturday and Bury away.
"Some of our players got 90 minutes, which is pleasing, and there were a few good performances in our team and a few that could have been a lot better."
