The youth team gave the start of their season a kick after beating Blackburn Rovers away in a friendly on Tuesday.

In a topsy-turvy game Rovers took the lead before the young Spireites took successive leads before being pegged back each time. However, the match was settled by an impressive Callum Greaves strike to settle the nine-goal thriller. Academy manager Mark Smith was happy with the opportunity to play the match: "Blackburn were looking for teams to play in a friendly and it was a great opportunity to play a top-level cat. 1 academy side, it wasn't easy but overall I was pleased with our lads and their reaction. "Some of the goals we conceded were sloppy and there is plenty still to work on, but we responded well to setbacks and showed spirit, which is always pleasing in these sort of games." Chesterfield: Parkin (gk), Hudson, Holmes, Daly, Thistlethwaite, Marshall, Taylor, Greaves, Lynam, Daswell, Milner Subs: Darwent, German, Rowley, Brownhill, Jarrald
