The youth team's tricky start to the season continued as they lost 3-1 to rivals Mansfield Town in an away fixture on Saturday lunch time.
After Mansfield had taken an early lead Derek Daly levelled the scores midway through the first half, but after the break the Stags pushed on, capitalised on Spireites mistakes and earned victory.
Reflecting on the match, assistant professional development phase coach John Bilton felt the game was one that got away from his side.
He said: "We were beaten 3-1 against a side that we feel had we not gifted them goals we could have won the game easily, but that was not to be.
"We conceded first but got it back to 1-1 after about 23 minutes and went in at half time level and very confident that we would be able to get a result, but after that we gave them two more goals.
"It was disappointing, but we're still working with players who are first years and still coming to terms with that pace of football and making individual and team mistakes, so we're still a work in progress.
"It's partly down to inexperience, being aware and seeing things quickly. They will improve, but it takes time. It's a big jump from playing at under 16 level to stepping up as a first year pro."
