After clinching Charlie Raglan's signature on a contract extension, manager Dean Saunders has revealed that Sam Hird and Dan Gardner have also verbally agreed new deals.
The pair are expected to put pen to paper shortly on agreements until the summer of 2017 while contract talks are taking place with Jay O'Shea and Daniel Jones.
Saunders is also working on strengthening the squad, although he insists he will not be rushed into making signings just to make up the numbers. He said: "They have to be better than what we've got.
"I've been talking to Championship players mostly and trying to persuade them to come to us. I've made offers for about six or seven Championship players, with pedigree.
"I'd rather set my sights on quality from above rather than sign League Two players. I'm waiting on phone calls from players, but there's no panic because we've got a strong team going into Saturday's game."
Saunders also revealed that a bid for an un-named midfielder currently playing for one of Chesterfield's League One rivals is on the table.
