Chesterfield defender Charlie Raglan has signed a one-year extension to his contract, securing his future until the summer of 2017.

Raglan, who was recruited from FC United of Manchester in April 2014, made 25 appearances last season. After putting pen to paper, he said: "I'm delighted to have got everything sorted out just before the start of the season. I've enjoyed my time at the club and I'm really happy here.

"The manager was a big factor in my decision to commit myself to a further year because he spoke to me soon after he took over and told me how he could improve me as a player."

Spireites manager Dean Saunders is pleased to have reached an agreement with the player. He said: "Charlie is a good young player with a great attitude who wants to improve. I am looking forward to working with him."

Meanwhile, Chesterfield have completed the signing of Alex Cairns and Dion Donohue. Keeper Cairns, who was released by Leeds United at the end of last season, has agreed a short-term deal until January 2 while midfielder Donohue joins the Spireites on a 12-month contract after impressing on trial.

Young forward Jake Orrell, who also caught Saunders' eye in pre-season, has been secured on a one-year deal.
