Spireites midfielder Sam Morsy has utilised the services of local running coach Chris Adams to improve his game in recent months.

Adams is the lead coach at Sheepbridge-based company The Running Coach and was found by Morsy during the summer.

Morsy explained how the partnership came about.

He said: "I started to work with Chris in the summer. It's basically to do with all speed and movement, agility and running efficiency.

"We've been working together for a number of months now and I've found that I've really come on as an athlete and it's helping me on the pitch."

Adams explained how he initially evaluated the midfielder's running style and then looked to improve it.

He said: "We've been looking at his running technique for movement around the pitch but also his acceleration and his efficiency.

"We've also been working on conditioning for more agility, more strength, stronger breathing and for more power in his running."

With running technique not the most usual focus point for footballers trying to advance their games, Morsy went through what made him seek Adams' assistance.

The Spireite said: "I always look for areas to improve on and I identified some of the things that I can work on. So I searched and found Chris, had a consultation and then we got going and started training together."

Adams explained how athletes fall into bad running habits, as well as saying which other people can benefit from such training.

He said: "You tend to find that over a period of years people tend to pick up certain movement patterns, I've looked at Sam's technique, the way that he's landing and his posture so he can move efficiently round the pitch better.

"Anyone that uses running as part of their sport or those people on their way back from injury, whether athletes or not, will find such training beneficial."

The Running Coach now sponsors a new matchday hospitality quiz, with a number of prizes up for grabs.
