Having made a good start to this year’s campaign after promotion to League 1, midfielder Jimmy Ryan spoke about the opening weeks of the season.
Ryan's dynamic midfield partnership with Sam Morsy has continued to blossom in the higher division and Ryan is happy with his side's start.
He said: “We’re pleased with the amount of points we’ve picked up so far, obviously there was the loss to MK Dons but we still played well in that game so there really aren’t too many negatives to look at so far.”
With a few changes to the squad during the summer and some injury problems at the start of this season, Ryan has had to play in a slightly different role to last season.
Daniel Johnson has also come in on loan from Aston Villa and made a good impression, which has seen the former Scunthorpe and Accrington player pushed further up in the midfield or out on the right wing.
Ryan said: “It’s been different, the gaffer knows what position I’m best in and what I enjoy, but if he needs me to do a job for him like play on the wing, then I’m happy to do that for him, he knows I’ll give my all.
“That’s all I can do really, try my best and that’s what I do. It doesn’t matter where I play I will always try my best.”
The midfielder has played in different positions at previous clubs, but after playing in a central role for the majority of last season, he’s had to adapt in recent games.
He said: “It’s not completely strange to me, but when you play somewhere for so long like I did last year then you kind of forget about the role a little bit, which might sound a bit daft seeing as its only 20 yards away on the pitch, but it changes your whole outlook on the game.”
Ryan and the rest of the Spireites will be hoping that their early season form continues when they return to league action on Saturday with the visit of Scunthorpe United to the Proact Stadium.
