Chesterfield youth team manager Mark Smith spoke about the young Spireites’ fixture-less weekend.
Despite the youth team not having a league fixture this Saturday, the coaching staff have decided to arrange a game against Liam Sutcliffe’s development squad.
Smith said: “We have no fixture this weekend so we are having a game behind closed doors with the development group.”
“We got together and said that we need to get our links stronger, so that is why we are having the game, so we can mix and match with the players.
“Training has been strange these last few days with us not having a game at the end of the week- we haven’t been preparing or building up to something at the end of it. It gives us a chance to mix up the youth team with some development players and we will see how it goes.”
Although there was no fixture to work towards this weekend, a friendly match against Leicester did take place.
Smith said: “This week’s training has been disrupted by the weather, but we had a game at Leicester to give players that haven’t been playing regular the minutes. We went there and it proved to be a useful exercise.”
