Two Spireites teams took part in friendly matches today, one away at Sheffield Wednesday's training ground, and one at Lincoln City.A team of first team players returning from injury mixed with youth team players lost 4-1 to Sheffield Wednesday under 21s in the Steel City.
The behind closed doors match was arranged to give fitness to the senior players and experience to the younger players.
Youth team manager Mark Smith explained his thinking behind sending some of his players for the match.
He said: "We had five or six of our youth team players involved in the game and it was good for them to get a run out at a slightly higher level.
"We'll now see how they do when they integrate back with the youth team squad for the next match, hopefully they'll be able to show some improvements with the added experience."
A squad of the less-experienced youth team players ran out 5-1 winners at Lincoln City in the day's other friendly, with Smith again talking through the merit of arranging the match.
Smith said: "We pick a team to try and win on a Saturday and we can only pick 11, we set up games such as this one so the lads who aren't playing can get some competitive football.
"It's about keeping all the players match sharp so if and when a chance does arise to get into the Saturday team they're ready to take the opportunity.
"There are a few players who have been desperate for games and the pleasing thing today was that they all look fit enough and could play the full 90 minutes.
"We also scored some decent goals and seeing as nothing is set in stone regarding the Saturday team it gives me a little bit of a look at the other players who might be ready to come in."
