Chesterfield strolled into the next round of the FA Youth Cup after a comprehensive 4-1 win over Stocksbridge Park Steels at the Proact.Goals from Lawrence Maguire, Mason Coy, Brad Holmes and Jake Beesley saw the Spireites to victory.
After ten minutes of early pressure the hosts took a deserved lead captain Maguire converted a corner with a thumping header.
A second nearly followed when Brad Holmes poked narrowly wide at the far post as another inswinging set piece caused panic among the Stocksbridge backline.
The second goal did soon follow as another crosses caused glances upwards but no clearance. Mason Coy ate up the yards to connect with the ball at the back post and half-volley home a sumptuous finish.
Every cross caused danger for the Steels defence and having gone close minutes earlier, Holmes gave the Spireites a three-goal half time lead with a header from another corner.
The second period started much as the first had ended, winger Jordan Walshaw cut inside well and while his shot had power it was down Josh Womack's throat and held by the visiting 'keeper.
However, the visitors did pull a goal back from the penalty spot after Louis Shaw found the turf in the Spireites' box. Any doubt about the validity of the decision was absent from the spot kicked, fair blasted home by the Steels' Joe Singleton.
Having conceded the Spireites solidified but withut the attacking threat of the first half, though Lewis Sugden struck the post with a fantastic 30-yard effort.
A well-crafted move saw Chesterfield add a fourth. Jake Beesley grabbed it, very much deservedly, as he turned home after the 'keeper had saved well from George Milner.
The closing stages were comfortable for the hosts as they progressed to the next round of the cup with a fair amount of comfort.
