Although Chesterfield didn’t have the best of months in October, Dan Jones remains confident and says that the mood in the team is still a positive one.
The belief has been further boosted after the thumping FA Cup win at Braintree Town, though Jones says the winless run hadn't effected the squad.
He said: “The atmosphere in the camp is good. It seems like we’re sharp again in training. The lads are laughing and having fun and the training has been high tempo this week and it feels like we’re getting back to where we were.”
The Spireites team are keen to keep clean sheets and Jones says that it is the responsibility of every player on the pitch, not just the defenders.
“You defend from the front,” said Jones. “From Eoin Doyle all the way through to Tommy Lee. We do a lot of it in training, shape and tactics and how we want to play and how we want to set up. Everyone knows what they’re doing.”
The FA Cup is the last cup competition that Chesterfield are still a part of and the magic of the cup, and the potential of being drawn with a big name, is something that Jones is excited about.
The defender said: “It’s always good, it’s always nice to go on a run yourselves. I’ve not got quite that far before so it’d be nice to, I’d like to and I think we’ve got a good group of players here.
“It’d be nice to get a big team here if we could reach the third round. The gaffer says that if you win against a big team your confidence grows and if we can get a big team here it’d be a day to remember as well.
“With wins come confidence but it is true that league form is league form and cup form is cup form."
