Chesterfield have released Sam Togwell, Jamie Devitt, Matty Brown and Jacob Hazel while new deals have been offered to the five other out-of-contract players.Jay O'Shea, Ritchie Humphreys, Sam Hird, Marc Richards and Nathan Smith are all currently thinking over the contracts put to them.
Manager Paul Cook thanked the out-going players for their service, saying: "All of the players have made a contribution and we would like to thank them and wish them the very best for the future.
"Talks are now taking place with the players whose current deals are about to expire and we will know the outcome of those negotiations in due course."
Togwell made over 50 appearances for the Spireites after joining the club two years ago. The 29-year-old midfielder had a spell on loan at Wycombe Wanderers this season.
Devitt, 23, joined Chesterfield following a spell on trial last summer after being released by Hull City. The winger made seven appearances for the Spireites and ended the season on loan at Morecambe.
Brown, 24, was signed from Marine last summer following a spell on trial. The central defender scored on his debut at home to Plymouth in December and was sent-off later in the game, although the red card was subsequently overturned on appeal.
Striker Hazel came through the ranks at the club and made a couple of first-team appearances. The 20-year-old had several spells out on loan this season, ending the campaign at FC United of Manchester.
