Spireites midfielder Jay O'Shea expresses his delight at signing a new two-year contract with Chesterfield and looks forward to a season in League 1.O'Shea played a crucial role in the Spireites' Sky Bet League 2 title winning season and was rewarded with a new contract that keeps the Irishman at the Proact Stadium until 2016.
Speaking about the new deal, he said: “Since I came to England, I’ve never really settled anywhere. I think now I’ve been here a year and a half and I’ve signed for another two years it will be the longest I’ve been at a club.
“That’s only going to be good for me and obviously for the club as well. I’m going to look to move to Chesterfield now with my family and I’m going to give it everything.”
O'Shea explained what it was that attracted him to the Proact Stadium when he originally signed on a permanent deal in January 2013.
“When I first came in and heard how the gaffer wanted to play football it suited me down to the ground. There’s a lot of positions for me in the formation that we play," commented the midfielder.
“Hopefully next year we’ll play the same style of football; attractive going forward and getting lots of goals.”
After achieving promotion, Chesterfield will now compete in the third tier of English football and O'Shea believes the Spireites have a squad that is capable of challenging in League 1.
“With the squad of players we have, I actually think it’s going to suit League 1 a lot better," explained the midfielder before adding: "I think there’s a lot of clubs in this league that are going to play decent football like ourselves.
“We’re going to big grounds, playing against big sides and I think we’re a team for the big games.”
