Versatile Spireite Tendayi Darikwa was disappointed not to take all three points from Chesterfield's clash with Portsmouth on Monday night.

Speaking to Spireites Player after the Sky Bet League 2 fixture, Darikwa explained how the visitors stopped Chesterfield from breaking them down.

He said: “We had a lot of the ball from start to finish. They made it difficult for us, they had a lot of men behind the ball and hit us on the break. It just wasn’t our night tonight.

“We had a lot of the ball and tried to create but it just wasn’t our night. We couldn’t get through them, couldn’t get round them.

“We go out every game to try and get three points so we’re disappointed but we’re still top of the league and we didn’t lose the game so we can’t be too negative.”

Tommy Lee made a number of strong saves to ensure Chesterfield didn't concede while they were pushing for a winning goal and Darikwa praised the Spireites 'keeper for maintaing a clean sheet.

“The saves he made probably kept us in the game," claimed the full-back before adding: "It ensured that we got the point so fair play to Tommy.

“We didn’t concede a goal so we take that as a bit of a positive. We’ve come away with a clean sheet, it’s been a while since we last kept one.”

Chesterfield travel to the Crown Ground on Saturday to take on Accrington Stanley for their second of eight games in what could prove to be a crucial month in the Spireites' 2013/14 campaign.

The Nottingham-born star is now looking for the Spireites to put Monday's result behind them and concentrate on a tough fixture at Accrington Stanley.

He said: “We’ll have nights like this but now it’s on to Accrington and hopefully we get three points there. Accringon’s always a tricky place, they always make it hard for you. We’ve just got to be professional, do our jobs and get the three points.”
