The Chesterfield mayor's fundraising efforts were boosted by the donation of a four-figure sum from the organisers of a funfair at the Proact Stadium.
Mayor Alexis Diouf attended the final day of a four-day funfair staged in the car park at the Proact and received a cheque for £1,000 from Eventive Funtime Ltd director Garry Evans.
Councillor Diouf said: "The Mayor's Appeal is raising funds for The British Heart Foundation, Friends of Baback and Rooftop and I am very grateful to Garry Evans and Chesterfield Football Club for the generous donation."
Evans was pleased to be able to help the charities after being delighted with the response to the first funfair staged in the town by his company. "We want to support the people in the community who come to our fair," he said.
"We want people to have a great time and hopefully it will become an annual event. It's a great place and we've had a fantastic time."
Chesterfield FC's events manager Paul Watts hopes that funfairs will feature regularly on the events calendar at the club. He said: "It took six months of planning to ensure that it was a success.
"The turn-out exceeded expectations, which delighted Garry and his colleagues, so it looks like being the start of a very good relationship. The revenue generated from the funfair is very welcome at a time when there are no matches being played."
