Ex-forces personnel are being encouraged to attend the monthly Veteran’s Hub event at the Proact Stadium.
The Jobcentre Plus event takes place between 10am and 12pm on the last Friday of every month, in partnership with the Chesterfield FC Community Trust.
Veteran Kevin Kus has been attending recent events and he has been making the most of the opportunity.
He said: “I was in the army for 20 years and when I came out I struggled to sort everything out all at once. It’s a great idea because it’s a one-stop shop - you can come in and get everything sorted in one morning.
“I managed to get a job through the Jobcentre by telling them the different things I’ve done and they pointed me in the right direction for the job I’m doing at the moment.”
Kevin recommended the event to fellow veterans, adding: “There are a lot of similar people to talk to and you’ll get a lot of inspiration off the other lads who have already got jobs.”
Angela Stansfield, employer and partnership manager for Jobcentre Plus in Chesterfield, praised the partnership with the Chesterfield FC Community Trust.
She said: “It fitted so well with the work that’s happening down here already. We have now received a charitable donation from the Royal British Legion, which will allow us to keep the event running here for the next six months.”
Angela was also keen to encourage ex-forces newcomers to the event. “We’d love to see them,” she said. “They can drop in, come with their families, and meet all the people that are going to be able to help them get work or training.”
