Max Cook, an eight-year-old member of the Chesterfield FC academy, won a competition to be a mascot for a recent UEFA Champions League fixture at Old Trafford.

The game between Manchester United and Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk  took place on Tuesday, December 10.

His father, Gary Cook, who is the conference & banqueting manager at the Proact Stadium, only found out a week before the match that he had been successful after entering a competition on Facebook.

Gary said: "Max was elated and extremely pleased, as some of his friends had done it and he couldn't wait to experience it himself."

Max, who lives in Chesterfield and attends Unstone Junior School, was led onto the pitch by England international Ashley Young. Gary said of his son's reaction: "He was very nervous, but that's understandable when you've just stood in front of nearly 75,000 people at that age."

Max is one of the lucky few to take part in this priceless experience, involving the stars of modern football in the biggest club competition in the game. It was certainly a day to remember for young Max and his family!
