Spireites Travel To Cheltenham

3 January 2014

Chesterfield travel to Abbey Business Stadium to take on Cheltenham Town in their 24th fixture of the 2013/14 Sky Bet League 2 season.

The Robins are currently 11th in the League 2 table having taken 33 points from 24 games, losing 2-1 at home to Mansfield Town in their last outing at the Abbey Business Stadium.

Cheltenham's defeat to the Stags marked the end of an 11-game unbeaten run in the league that had propelled the Robins to the fringes of the League 2 play-off positions.

Mark Yates' side were due to play Bristol Rovers on New Year's Day but as with Chesterfield's game against Northampton town, the Gas and Robins were rained off.

The Spireites approach this fixture on the back of a 1-1 draw with Dagenham & Redbridge at the Proact Stadium where a sublime Abu Ogogo strike cancelled out an earlier Marc Richards penalty to send the sides home level.

Chesterfield were due to face Northampton Town on Wednesday but as a result of a waterlogged pitch, the fixture was called off and will be rearranged for a later date.

With the North Derbyshire side missing a game and Scunthorpe United and Burton Albion both taking points from their respective fixtures, the Spireites dropped into third place in the Sky Bet League 2 table with a game in hand over the teams above.

Cheltenham and Chesterfield meet for the second time this season after the Spireites prevailed 2-0 at the Proact Stadium in August. Goals from Gary Roberts and Eoin Doyle proved enough to seal the Spireites' second league win of the season.

Pitch Update

"At present the pitch is playable for this weekend's game but we obviously need to be wary about the incoming weather which is forecast. A pitch update will available here on later today as well as regular updated up to and including matchday."

Team News

Cheltenham Town
The Robins will welcome Steve Elliott back into action this weekend after the central defender has recovered from an ankle injury.

Marc Richards, Gary Roberts, Jimmy Ryan and Sam Morsy have been given the all clear ahead of this weekend's game and are likely to feature.

Sam Hird received a red card for a professional foul during Chesterfield's draw with Dagenham & Redbridge and will serve his one-match ban against Cheltenham.

Club captain Ian Evatt is also suspended for Saturday's game as the yellow card he picked up against the Daggers was his fifth of the season and results in a one-match ban.

Aaron Chapman is close to recovering from the knee injury that has troubled the goalkeeper for the best part of a month but he will not be available for this weekend's game.
