Johnstone's Paint Pot Challenge

Chesterfield have limbered up for their crucial Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Area Final by taking on the Johnstone’s Paint Pot Challenge.

The Spireites took on the unique test of accuracy in the build-up to their two-legged Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern Area Final against Fleetwood Town.

Ten players from the Chesterfield squad attempted to chip the ball from the angle of the 18-yard box into a giant inflatable paint pot on the middle of the six yard line.

They were joined by Chesterfield season-ticket holder Nick Phillips, who won a special competition run by Johnstone’s Paint to be the club’s ‘11th man’ for the Challenge.

Ten points are awarded for a successful chip-on, with one point accumulated each time the paint pot is struck.

Armand Gnanduillet, Ollie Banks and Gary Roberts all hit the paint pot for Chesterfield, while Nick became the second ‘11th man’ supporter winner to score a point for their club this season.

But Chesterfield’s total of four points wasn’t enough to dislodge current Johnstone’s Paint Pot Challenge leaders Fleetwood, who scored 16, off top spot.

“The lads thoroughly enjoyed taking on the Johnstone’s Paint Pot Challenge and there was plenty of banter amongst those taking part,” said Chesterfield boss Paul Cook.

“We are really enjoying the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy run this season and it would be fantastic if we could emulate what the club did two seasons ago and make it all the way to Wembley and lift the trophy.”

Ben Wilde, brand and sponsorship manager for Johnstone’s Paint, said: “Chesterfield had some near misses and could have had a larger scorer, but we were delighted they got in the spirit of the Johnstone’s Paint Pot Challenge.

“All four Area Final clubs – Swindon Town, Peterborough United, Chesterfield and Fleetwood Town – have now taken on the Challenge now so it’s all set up to see who can reach the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final at Wembley.

“We thank Chesterfield for their participation and wish them well for the rest of the season.”
