Assistant manager Leam Richardson admitted getting the goals at the right time helped Chesterfield overcome a resolute Bristol Rovers side.

Samy Morsy opened his account for the Spireites early in the game before Lee Brown equalised ten minutes before half time. Ollie Banks restored Chesterfield’s lead before the break and Eoin Doyle wrapped up the points only a minute into the second half.

Speaking about the performance, assistant manager Richardson said: “It’s always good to get an early goal. It breeds confidence through. The lads have applied themselves well over the last couple of weeks and we’ve got good momentum.

“We scored the goals at the right time today. The lads put in a good shift from the first to the last whistle. You’ve got to give credit to Doyle, who has been patient and waited for his chance. He’s stepped up and he’ll be made up this weekend.

“The lads have to get a lot of plaudits. The gaffer and I have put some demands on them recently and they have responded well. They have good momentum and it’s a good dressing room at the minute.”

Morsy got the Spireites flying within the opening five minutes, marking his first goal for the club. The number two had only positive words to say about the midfielder.

“He’s a great professional,” commented Richardson, before adding: “He works tirelessly hard every day and he’s got demands on himself and the players. We’ve been talking about trying to release him into the box more and it’s paid off today.”

Chesterfield extended their lead at the top of Sky Bet League Two on Saturday and face two very important away games this week. The former Accrington manager knows how important it is for everyone that the players put in a good display.

“We’ve got goals all around the team. The lads out of the squad are working tirelessly hard to push the players. We go into the next two games full of momentum and confidence,” said the 33-year-old.

“It will be great for the fans to go to Wembley and the players are aware of that. The fans travel in numbers and it would be great for everyone to have a day out at Wembley.
