With no league fixture, Mark Smith’s youth team played a friendly away to Rotherham United at the weekend and recorded a 4-2 victory.
Goals from Curtis Morrison, Mason Coy, George Milner and Kibane did the damage on the day as the Spireites proved too strong for the Millers.
The friendly provided the team with a chance to get extra time on the pitch ahead of the FA Youth Cup tie against Aston Villa, scheduled to be played on Monday, December 15.
Smith said: “We’re thankful and grateful to Rotherham for setting the game up at short notice and it worked out because they had a free weekend as well.
“It was a useful exercise. We had a little go at some things that were running across my mind in regards to how we’re going to play against Villa.”
Smith took the opportunity to experiment which ultimately helped him in seeing how his team will set up in two weeks' time.
He said: “I worked out that I’m not going to do what I thought I was going to do because it didn’t work.
"Sometimes you give the opposition a little bit too much respect and we’re just going to play how we play.”
