After a bumper weekend at the Proact Stadium, the conference and banqueting staff are now all set for a busy Christmas season.

Over the weekend the Proact hosted a charity ball, the first Christmas parties of the year and two weddings, including that of club record goalscorer Ernie Moss's daughter, Nikki.

Concourse and events manager Paul Watts took a brief pause from his duties to look back at a busy few days.

He said: “We’ve had a very busy weekend. We’ve had two weddings and also the Karen Child Foundation ball, which went down really well.

“The foundation made around £6,000 for the charity on Saturday night."

After the event, Chris Hyman, patron of the Karen Child Foundation spoke about his evening at the Proact Stadium.

He said: "I've always thought it was good here. We've been here often as the place looks so lovely, the service and the staff are great and the facilities are so wonderful.

"We ate lamb this time, which was unusual, but I think tonight was the best food we've had in all the times we've come.

"I think it's great to be able to support the club, and with everything they have here it's the obvious decision to make."

Watts added: “Ernie Moss’s daughter got married here on Sunday, and it was a surprise wedding. That meant that her guests didn’t actually realise they were coming to a wedding, they thought they were coming to a birthday party.”

The new Nikki Trueman (née Moss) was glowing in her appreciation of her special day with the club her father served so famously.

She said: "Words can't describe how happy I am. Yesterday was the best day of my life and I'd like to thank everyone at the club for an amazing, wonderful day.

"My dad had a blast too, and he was dancing all night!"

With the calender now reading December, the Christmas party season is upon on, and assistant conference and banqueting manager Diane Shirt is looking forward to the rush.

She said: "Christmas is the busiest time of the year for us and there's a lot going on in the next month or so.

"It's certainly going to be hectic, but all the staff are looking forward to it and I'm excited to be a part of so many fun and festive parties.

“This year we’re full on Christmas Day and on New Year’s Eve and both pantomimes are nearly full as well. We're looking forward to several weeks of singing, dancing, great food and maybe even some kissing under the mistletoe!"
