Sam Morsy was captain for the day in the 1-0 FA Cup second round win at MK Dons and he spoke to Spireites Player after the match.
Armand Gnanduillet's header just after half time was enough to separate the sides and see the Spireites into tonight's FA Cup third round draw.
Morsy was central to the Spireites' cause and was as pleased as anyone with the way the match had gone.
“It was a fantastic performance today,” said Morsy. “As of late we’ve been close but not quite there, a lot of clean sheets but we haven’t been able to turn the draws into wins. Today it was a fantastic team performance and we got we deserved, a good win.
“You look at the Crawley game and their goal came from an individual error, a slip which can happen to anybody, but again there are always different ways to win a game.
"Today was going to be a good football match, I thought we matched them, we out-fought them. We had a game plan and we played it well.”
With MK Dons in impressive recent form the second round match was always going to be a tough one and Morsy was pleased to see Armand Gnanduillet notch his first goal of the season.
The midfielder said: “It’s fantastic for him. He had to go on loan, get some games, get his hunger back and he came in today with a great performance. He led the line so well and I’m delighted for him to get his goal.”
“You look at the previous game with MK Dons at home where I thought we were the better team - but they’re on an unbelievable run. You only have to look at what they did to Colchester, so I expected a little more from them but when we’re on our game we’re a match for anybody in this league.”
The talented midfielder was happy to take on the added responsibility of skippering the side and took the chance to thank the fans for the continued support that they have showed throughout his time at the club.
He said: “I see myself as a captain in my own right anyway, but it’s a fantastic achievement for me to captain the club and I love it - if I’m honest and it spurs me on even more.
“The support today was unbelievable. Since I came to the club the travelling fans have been incredible, they were noisy and the gaffer was saying that the club hadn’t been in the third round for a long time so it was nice to give something back to them and hopefully we’ll get a good away day for them.”
