A Chesterfield XI progressed to the fourth round of the DCFA Senior Challenge Cup after a 5-2 win over Derby side Graham Street Prims.

First team coach Kevin Lynch started with a mix of players returning from injury, first team players in need of a run out as well as some youth team players.

There was an early scare for the fancied hosts as 30 seconds in the Prims were awarded a penalty. Striker Toby Howard took the kick but was denied by a terrific save from Spireites 'keeper Myles Wright, pushing the effort onto the bar.

Gboly Ariyibi went close with the hosts' first real effort 12 minutes in, cutting from the left and firing a fierce right-footed shot, well parried by Prims 'keeper Jack Anderson.

After Romy Boco had hit the bar for the Spireites, the hosts found themselves behind when Seb Zondi beat captain Ian Evatt on teh right and lofted a delightful chip over Wright and in to open the scoring.

The Prims' lead didn't last long however, as a minute later Dan Gardner found space in the box and fired home a low shot to even up the scoreline.

With the game fairly even heading for the interval the Spireites doubled their score when the ever-menacing Gardner shot from 25 yards, had his effort parried and then tapped home by Beesley. The visiting players claimed offside, but no flag was raised and the goal stood.

Second half and after Ariyibi had a shot blocked on the line before Boco made it three with a well-hit half volley from 25 yards.

It was soon four as Lewis Sugden found the back of the net with a swirling low freekick just ahead of the hour mark.

With the hosts now moving up through the gears Ariyibi added his name to the scoresheet with a powerful half volley of his own, the ball falling to the wide man on the egde of the box.

Not to left too far behind, the Prims grabbed a second when midfielder Dean Oliver played a neat one-two off with the post and slotted home to narrow the Spireites advantage.

The rain continued but the scoring ended at that, the Spireites safely progressing in the cup.
