Jake Beesley scored two goals with Derek Daly and Tope Fowodu grabbing one a piece to help the young Spireites win 4-1 at York City on Saturday, maintaining their unbeaten start to the season.
It was Daly who gave Chesterfield the lead early on, following good link-up play in the York penalty area.
After City temporarily levelled, the Spireites were then able to regain the lead through a calm Beesley finish, before Tope Fowodu grabbed the third to make it 3-1 at the break.
The impressive performance was capped off in the second half, as Beesley put the score line beyond doubt with a clever finish.
Youth-team coach Mark Smith was pleased with what he saw during the match.
He said: “I thought we thoroughly deserved it. We started quite slow, but once we upped the tempo a little bit we got on top.
“We went 1-0 up and it was a good finish from Derek Daly after good combination play. We then allowed them to get back into it with an equaliser, which could have easily been avoided. There were a couple of things that we weren’t happy with but we move on.
“We managed to get back in the lead again through Jake Beesley. We then went 3-1 up before half-time and we thought that the next goal was going to be vital. If we scored it, it was going to be game over, and if was the other way round it would have been game on, but thankfully we ran out comfortable winners.”
